Lights, Camera, Catwalk!
As a second-year Fashion Branding & Communications student, stepping into my very first fashion show was both nerve-wracking and exhilarating. I had no idea what to expect, but the moment I joined forces with Tortue, those nerves disappeared. Their warmth and support made me feel instantly at home, like part of the team.
Last Monday, I had the incredible privilege of working with the brand for their fashion show in Bristol at the stunning retirement village, Audley Redwood - a venue so impressive that I wouldn’t mind living there myself someday! Even better, Tortue has given me the amazing opportunity to work alongside them over the next couple of weeks as part of my industry practice unit - a chance I’m endlessly grateful for.
Though I’m a total newbie to the world of Tortue, I’m thrilled to share my experience and showcase some of my favourite looks from the event!
Despite arriving at the venue covered in iced coffee from a silly accident on my journey - classic Uni student behaviour, isn’t it? – I got a warm welcome from reception. I couldn’t help but think, ‘Oh no, this is hardly a good first impression!’ This was my first time meeting Amelia, and she immediately noticed the large stains on my top as I walked in - stains I hadn’t even realised were there until that moment.
Thankfully, Tortue’s Summer 2025 collection came to the rescue! Instead of having to walk around the show looking like a stained tea towel, Amelia kindly handed me the stunning Printed Jumpsuit in Fuchsia, saving the day with its gorgeous bold print, perfect for the uncomfortable heat that day due to its very light, breathable material and loose dropped shoulders paired with an elegant V-neckline.
I wore this with great comfort throughout the show, and although it comes with a matching belt, I chose to style it with a funky zebra print statement belt from Amelia, highlighting the garment's incredible versatility to those who love to accessorise. This jumpsuit is available from sizes 6 to 18 and perfect for that summer holiday you have coming up.
Coincidentally, I ended up looking very similar to Amelia - so much so that someone even asked her, ‘Is this your daughter?’ With our matching pink jumpsuits and blonde hair, it was an easy mistake to make!
So, if you’re looking for something similar to Tortue’s Printed Jumpsuit in Fuchsia but with a unique twist, the Pleated Jumpsuit is a perfect choice. It’s available in pink or green, usually ranging from sizes 6 to 22. However, sizes 6-8 (T0) and 20-22 (T4) are currently sold out, so it’s best to buy now to avoid disappointment before there’s no stock left at all.
With its flattering V-neckline and beautifully draped cross-back, it’s no wonder this jumpsuit has become such a hit - too good to miss out on, if you ask me! While both garments are undeniably beautiful, I personally prefer the Pleated Jumpsuit. I love how the cross-back creates the illusion of a two-piece set due to its open back and the way it sits - such a fun, flowing design. It’s perfect for when you’ll be hosting your next BBQ or dressing it up with a pair of wedges when you go out for drinks with the girls. Wherever you may be, its palm tree print screams summer.
Once I was all dressed up and looked the part, it was time to play my part. My main role for the day was to capture as many videos and photos as possible to ensure there was enough footage to create content for the social media side of things - more specifically, Instagram Reels. As a young girl in her early twenties who is forever doom-scrolling through her feed, I felt experienced and confident in knowing exactly what I needed to produce.
Although this was my main role at the event, I first helped Amelia set up the catwalk. From placing business cards on seats to organising clothes on rails, we worked together to ensure everything was perfect. Once we were set up and ready to go, I had a bit of time to kill. During that time, I got to meet the gorgeous ladies who were modelling for the show. They were all so sweet and, of course, ended up absolutely killing it on the runway! Well done girls!
As for me, when I had to quickly model my jumpsuit, I realised just how hard it is to strike a pose without looking like you don’t belong there. It was a challenge, to say the least!
Anyhow, before I embarrass myself even more…
While waiting for the event to begin, Amelia introduced me to the wonderful people from St Peter’s Hospice. I couldn’t help but think how incredible it felt to be part of something that was not only a fun catwalk but also a charity event which supported such a meaningful cause. The excitement was heightened by a fantastic raffle with great prizes up for grabs, including one very fabulous Tortue bag and a table for two at the Giggling Squid. I wish I’d bought tickets!
Another amazing opportunity I had was meeting Anita and Amalia, a mother-daughter duo who own ‘Irene & Jenny,’ a sustainable luxury brand that transforms old family jewellery into breathtaking, bespoke pieces. I thought their concept was so sweet - each heirloom piece tells a story, and by repurposing these treasures, they allow you to retain their sentimental value while tailoring them to reflect your personal style. It’s a beautiful example of how upcycling can be both meaningful and stylish.
I found this especially inspiring and touching, having dealt with the grief of losing a few family members in the past who left behind special pieces. Knowing that Anita and Amalia can help preserve the memory of loved ones through their work truly means a lot. The examples of upcycled jewellery they shared were absolutely phenomenal and I definitely recommend contacting them if you have a special something which needs a little bit of TLC!
After getting to know everyone at the event and sipping on my delicious glass of bubbly, it was finally time for the fashion show to begin - how exciting! To kick things off, Amalia and Anita introduced themselves to the Audley Redwood crowd and gave a brilliant talk about their business, which definitely sparked interest among a few of the ladies. Next up were the Tortue ladies!
Amelia did an incredible job at talking through each look as the models worked their magic, super photogenic may I add! With each look different from the next, I’m now sat here scratching my head, finding it difficult to pick out my favourites for you as they were all so stunning in their own ways.
For me, as someone who loves a night out and a little bit of sparkle, the look featuring the Lurex Mila Sleeveless Top was a definite standout. It’s such a gorgeous yet versatile staple to add to your wardrobe, complementing both summer and winter outfits. Picture the warm bronze against a golden summer tan or the shimmery black paired with knee-high boots and a cheeky mini skirt for party season - this top is simply to die for! It was definitely something I had my eye on while helping sell the clothes after the show. Available in sizes 6 to 24 and fully in stock, there’s no excuse not to snag this chic piece.
Continuing with adaptable pieces, I think another must-have is the Biker Jacket in Petrol. It’s perfect for those chillier summer days when you can’t quite get away with going jacket-free, but none of your current jackets seem to match your outfit. Instead of pairing an anorak with a gorgeous Tortue dress, why not invest in this edgy jacket? Available in sizes 6 to 20, I loved how it was styled with Tortue’s Wrap Dress - it created such a colourful, playful look that’s sure to make you stand out from the crowd.
Biker jackets have become incredibly popular over time and are definitely on-trend with Uni students. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve been out once without spotting someone wearing one! I personally love mine, which I thrifted - it’s a versatile piece that pairs perfectly with a dress or, for a more casual look, with your favourite jeans and a simple blouse.
Finally, my last pick for you has to be the Sequin Jacket in Champagne, available in sizes small to large. I thought it looked so pretty and feminine when styled with the Alicia Patch Pocket Jeans in Rosewood, which Tortue now only has in sizes 12 to 20 - who doesn’t love a bit of pink with sparkles? Both pieces looked incredibly comfortable and flattering too. For anyone who wants to dress up without wearing anything too revealing, this combination is perfect for you!
And just like that, before I knew it, the event was over! Sales were a massive hit that day, the sun was shining, and the ladies left the show with big smiles on their faces - what a perfect day at Audley Redwood. If I haven’t said it enough already, it was a huge privilege to help with the fashion show and so lovely to see all the beautiful clothing Tortue has to offer in person. I truly believe that Tortue isn’t just for the elder generations; it’s also incredibly appealing to Gen Z shopaholics like me. As Angela mentioned in one of her previous posts, ‘Stealing Your Style!’, Tortue’s pieces are versatile and timeless. If I could have, I would’ve bought almost the entire rail of clothes! However, we eventually called it a day, and, unfortunately, I had to travel back home in my iced coffee getup.
Thank you for having me on the blog Tortue!
