Paris 2024

Blog Post Paris 2024

I’m not really a fan of sport and to be honest I tend to leave the room if the family have it playing on TV, however, when it comes to the Olympic Games that’s different!!! For some reason, I find it compelling viewing (and its not just because rapper Snoop Dogg appeared in the spectating crowd in full equestrian kit including riding hat!!).

Maybe its because there are sports featured that I wouldn’t normally watch like speed climbing watching the ladies going head to head to scale up those huge climbing walls like Spiderman in just over 6 seconds was astonishing!!

Or maybe it’s the inclusiveness so many different nationalities competing with a common goal but also the age range of competitors. Did you see that the GB Team for Skateboarding not only had the amazing 16 year old Sky Brown win a bronze medal but also a competitor who is 51 … finished 18th I think but had a blast and was so happy in his interview with BBC Sport and was hoping that by someone watching him compete that this would inspire someone to take it up!

Maybe its because the competitors all have spent four years (and many more besides) following a training programme that totally takes over their life just to get their moment to compete at the games that it pulls out something extra special in their performance, or maybe it’s the personal stories that we are openly told by the commentators and competitors themselves after their event that we can relate to especially when they are overcoming adversity, illness, injury or mental health issues.

There is also a spirit of compassion at the games the biggest cheers from the crowds (apart from the home nation cheering for the host country competitors) ultimately go to the person who maybe fell on the athletics track but got up, kept going and crossed the finish line last.

And then there are the competitors who took a year or two (or three) out of their sport, but came back to train for the Olympics in a shorter timescale and smashed it out the
park to earn their medal on the podium (think Adam Peaty for swimming, Tom Daley for diving and Helen Glover Mum of 3 young children receiving a silver medal for rowing to name just a few) you cant help but be inspired by so many and there are still so many more events to go!

Its interesting watching the athletes prepare for their events. Many close their eyes and are visioning themselves competing their best race or event, blocking out the noise of the spectators and becoming a spectator in their mind, watching themselves compete. Going over their strategy, where they will be and what they will be doing at various points of a race and focussing on how it will look and feel when they win their event.

This got me thinking … (dangerous I know) … about outfit planning!!! (I can hear you saying “what?? How??” but bear with me and I will explain!

Sometimes we know exactly what we want to wear, we have a vision of how its going to look when we wear it, especially if we have a special event to go to. Many people find it easier to compile an outfit for a special occasion but for day to day it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming for many reasons. Maybe we have been overcoming some adversity ourselves like an illnesss, maybe we have lost confidence a little, maybe we don’t want to stand out in a crowd and just want to blend in, or maybe we have had time out to raise a family and feel a bit lost in knowing what will suit. If this is you, then we can help!! And even if it isn’t you and you are a curious person, then we can still help!

We understand that not everybody wants or has the time to spend time with one of our Style Consultants in person so we have created a clever new tool on our website to help you out great for when you are short on time, or struggle to know what suits you.

The Tortue UK Online Shopping Experience can be found on the home page of our website at Tortue.uk - just scroll down and you will see it. Simply answer a handful of multiple choice questions to see a personalised list of suggested garments that we think will suit you based on your answers.

Curious?? Then why not give it a go?? If you already know what suits then why not try it anyway and see if you think our suggestions are right for you? If you like what you see you can add the items directly to your online shopping cart without the faff of having to look them up individually on the website too! Clever hey?

You can also see what our customer favourites are at the moment by clicking on the Tortue AW24 Best Sellers picture to reveal the most popularly ordered pieces.

I’m not sure whether it is totally down to the Olympics but metallics seem to be a big hit with everyone at the moment not necessarily in a full garment but more subtle ways too by metallic trims to necklines of blouses and jumpers, or waistbands of loose fit trousers.

Standy by for some Olympic medal inspired selections!

Bronze Medal Winning Style

This gorgeous iridescent parka style Raincoat in Chestnut is already proving a hit with customers! The drawstring hood is constructed from 3 pieces of material to give a good shape especially important for you if you have a lot of hair to keep inside!! The back yoke to the raincoat has an overlaid vent so that you don’t overheat nobody likes getting sweaty on the inside whilst trying to keep the rain off the outside!! Available in sizes UK6 to 24. Its also available in silver too!
The Printed Trousers in Black with bronze print are inspired by the golden age of splendour of the Orient Express Train! Naturally elegant and perfect for all seasons. The wide cut to the trouser legs created from viscose for breathability and a beautifully stylish offset button and fly belt too! They are also available in night blue and bronze alternative colourway too. Both in sizes UK4 to 20

Silver Medallists

The parka style Raincoat in Silver is another big hit with customers so far and something that we think will be a sell out pretty quickly!

The Romy Coated Jeans in Silver are bang on trend! 98% cotton and part of our Planet Tortue eco range. These 5 pocket jeans have a button and zip fly to the front with a straight cut to the leg. The artisan iridescent finish adds a touch of sparkle to your outfit. Great for festivals, music concerts, day to day and special occasions too! Each piece is unique given the coating to the jeans. Easy to look after simply wash inside out to keep the shine. Available in sizes UK4 20

The jeans look great with the Lurex Mila Sleeveless Top in Silver. Add some glamour with this shimmering T shirt which is also available in a black or bronze colourway too. This straight cut sleeveless top is a jersey knit with lurex thread to the outside only so it isn’t scratchy against your skin on the inside. Sizes UK6 -24

The Olympic Gold Medal Champions!

Opt for Romy Coated Jeans in Champagne colourway for an iridescent touch of class. Wear them classic style with a plain knit, bling up with statement jewellery or a fine layered necklace and heels for a night out or dress down with an oversize knit, boots and tote bag for catching up with friends. They truly are a great all round piece for your wardrobe.

Alternatively opt for mixed metallics of the Sequined T -Shirt in Khaki. The v neck with small raw edge is easy to wear and dropped shoulders with ¾ length raw edge finish sleeves are super practical (i.e they don’t dangle in the water when you are washing up!). The bright eye motif is crafted from bronze silver and gold sequins and available in sizes UK6 to 24.

If you prefer a more subtle approach to wearing metallics then the Lurex Trim Shirt in Ecru may be just your thing. The trim features gold, silver and black metallics along the placket continuing down behind the hidden buttons and across the shoulders at the back. Exquisite smocking detail to the back of the shirt and a slightly longer hem to the back than the front is great for those who like to wear their shirts loose to cover their hips and bottom. Crafted from 100% breathable viscose and available in sizes UK4 -24 its another great dress up dress down piece for your wardrobe that you can wear in any season. Wear it “jacket style” now over a vest top with the sleeves rolled up and that sparkling subtle detail will transform your look in the blink of an eye! It also looks great for working in a professional environment too especially when worn under a blazer for the office.

Enjoy the rest of what the Paris 2024 Olympics have in store I heard a rumour that Tom Cruise is going to perform some kind of stunt at the Closing Ceremony … so I will definitely be watching that for sure!

Au revoir!
